The Postgraduate Certificate in Education in Senior Phase and Further Education and Training Teaching will build on subject knowledge content, together with the principles, practices and methods of teaching, and workplace experience, to enable successful students to apply their learning as beginner teachers to implement the National Curriculum Statements. The specialisation of Jewish Studies, will allow qualifying teachers the opportunity to professionalise themselves as Jewish Studies educators.

The Hebrew Certificate programme is a year course dealing with the unique Middlebury approach to teaching Hebrew as a 2nd language. The programme is broken up into two components, namely: Pedagogy (learning the unique Middlebury approach) & Language enrichment (A focused 6-months of Hebrew language enrichment, designed to uplift educators knowledge of the Hebrew language on a practical level). Hebrew is a cornerstone of Jewish Education. It is the language of the Jewish past, as well as the Jewish future. It is the tongue of the Tanach, as well as of the State of Israel. By teaching Hebrew to the highest standards, we ensure our students can participate in every aspect of Jewish life - from the Shul to the Home to the IDF to University in Israel and of course to Aliyah.

Our MA in Teaching Hebrew as a Second Language gives you the skills to support learners in becoming proficient in Hebrew. This intensive programme, is Ideal for those who want to become experts in teaching Hebrew as a second language, as well as pre-service or in-service teachers.

The MA in Jewish education will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the fundamentals of educational theory and practice, with particular focus on the specific challenges and questions that arise in the context of a Jewish environment. The course is split over two or three years (as per your choice) to allow you to develop knowledge and skills at an appropriate pace. In the first two terms, the learner will focus on generic issues whilst from the third year you will specialise in an area unique to your background or where you want to head in your career. This MA programme is a distance learning course and is offered online.

Self-Funded
Payment or part-payment to be effected by yourself. The Academy requires some self-payment for all programmes run.
Employer Support
Your employer may be sponsoring some portion of your study fees. If you would like to send your employer a motivation form, please request the motivation form from NED.
Interest Free Loan
South Africa has two Jewish interest-free loan providers - the Rambam Trust and JFLA (Jewish Free Loans Association). Both organisations have earmarked funds for Higher Education but are limited in nature.
These funds are available as external funds providers, not affiliated to NED, The Academy or its partners.
The NED Team has extensive contact with both of these providers regarding NED students and the programme; applicants can contact either of them directly. NED will assist applicants to make contact with either of them directly.
